This family-owned, 110-year old Michigan retailer has been led by a female president since 2012, and nearly 70% of its executive leadership team is female. That’s no accident because the company invests heavily in leadership training and is dedicated to creating a culture that provides equal opportunity for all employees to grow and advance.

One example is the Gardner White Leadership Academy, which brings together store leaders who learn from each other while training the next generation of talent. Leadership classes are purposely half male/half female to cultivate diverse leadership over time.

“As a family-owned business, family is truly at the core of our culture,” said Lynn Sebastian-Magnone [sic], who began working for the [sic] retailer following her high school graduation in 2000 and is now [sic] president of sales (and a mother of five). “They have created a unique atmosphere that is supportive, awards growth, encourages employees to have a voice, and provides a space for all individuals to have a strong work-life balance.”
